Prayer as...?
Thank God for a fun and fruitful session last Sunday! Hahaha...I'm still very amused by the role-playing put up by the different groups :) Good job, guys!
The group I was in was supposed to role-play based on this theme: 'prayer as an emergency/panic button'. The creative group members came up with the idea of 'powerpuff girls' kind of scenario where the human would basically just go about doing his own stuff when everything's fine and not hear God talk to him. It is only when he gets into trouble that he presses the emergency button for help (remembers about prayer and then starts to pray) and God will send him angels (in the form of superheroes; instead of using 'powerpuff girls', the group improvises and came up with 'the power dimsums' consisting of siew mai, hargao and lor mai kai :) heehee...) Thus, it was super hilarious!!!
Ultimately, we realise that prayer isn't supposed to be regarded as an emergency button which you only press when in deep trouble. But you might be wondering, so what is prayer?
Simply put, Prayer is talking to God! It is spending time to talk to God, to build an intimate relationship with Him and also to listen to what God has to say to you.
Why should we pray? (2 Corinthians 1:8-11)
1) Prayer is an acknowledgement of our dependence on God and helplessness without God.
2) Prayer is an acknowledgement of God's power.
3) Prayer is to acknowledge and recognise that God is at work and to give Him thanks.
A relationship always require communication and prayer is a form of open and honest communication with God as we seek a closer relationship with Him. So, let us pray...
